How To Use

No machine. No experience needed. If you can wash a car, you can apply Tricoat. Here's exactly how we do it in our shop.

What you'll need

  • 1 bottle of GoldenX Tricoat
  • 2 clean microfiber towels (one to spread, one to buff)
  • A clean, dry car
  • Shade, or a cool time of day

Step 1: Wash and dry your vehicle.

Tricoat bonds best to clean paint. Wash with a pH-neutral car soap and dry completely. Work in the shade on a surface that's cool to the touch.

Step 2: Mist 2 to 3 sprays per panel.

Spray lightly onto the panel, or directly onto a clean microfiber towel. One panel means about one door or half a hood.

Step 3: Spread evenly.

Wipe across the panel with your first towel to spread a thin, even layer.

Step 4: Buff to a streak-free shine.

Grab your second, dry towel and buff until the surface is clear and slick.

Step 5: Move panel by panel, then let it cure.

Work your way around the car. Let Tricoat cure for 12 to 24 hours before rain or washing for best results.

Pro tips from our detailers

  • Less is more. Over-spraying is the number one cause of streaks.
  • Streaks? Buff again with a clean, dry towel.
  • Hit the glass and wheels too. Tricoat is safe on both.
  • Already have a ceramic coating? Use Tricoat as a topper to boost gloss and beading.
  • When to reapply: once water stops beading tightly. For most drivers that's up to 12 months, sooner in harsh winters or with frequent washing.

Keep it lasting longer

  • Wash with a pH-neutral soap, not dish soap or harsh degreasers
  • Avoid automatic car washes with harsh brushes when you can
  • Rinse off road salt regularly in winter
